I’m recognizing some milestones in this coming week, most notably that it’s soon the two-year anniversary of Crown of Caphedra being published!
Going back a bit farther, it was five years ago, I was fiddling around with numbers on a spreadsheet, drafting make-believe armies and christening battles which never happened. I was in the early stages of birthing a religious doctrine around which an early-medieval society could function, but that was only on the cusp of deifying its progenitors–made-up mentors whose tenets woud give a sense of credence to a social order based on pyramid schemes and pseudo-gangland shakedowns.
By Christmas of 2018, those armies had become legion, and I had a whole pantheon from within which I could root a robust religion. Suddenly, it made writing easy. For the first time ever, I started writing a book that I did not abandon. By the time the first few chapters hit the page, I was devoted to my own story.
And I still am. It’s gnawing on me that I should be composing the next chapter of Kings of Kramwen right now. I’ve come to commence my chapters with a vague concept of where they need to go, but so much gets drafted on the page, when inspiration hits me, that I’m even at the edge of my own seat while writing. That’s what really makes the whole process fun.
But back to the concreteness of accomplishment. On 19 November, two years ago, Crown of Caphedra was first put up for sale. Since then, I’ve been so pleased with the wonderful response (enough so that I pushed onward with the next installment in the series, is due out next year.) I say this, not for some accolade, but to alert you to the cryptic promise that there might just be a special promotion coming up this week, if you don’t already own a copy…
